Upp­ljóstr­ar­inn Jó­hann­es Stef­áns­son, fyrr­ver­andi starfsmaður Sam­herja í Namib­íu, var á tíma­bili með þrett­án líf­verði er hann dvaldi í Suður-Afr­íku í tvö skipti. Þetta kom fram í viðtali við hann í Kast­ljósi . Heima á Íslandi er hann ekki með líf­verði en ger­ir þess í stað sín­ar eig­in ör­ygg­is­ráðstaf­an­ir. Lög­regl­an veit af hon­um og hans stöðu. „En þegar ég ferðast þarf ég oft að hafa líf­verði,“ sagði hann en tók fram að hann væri ekki hrædd­ur. Nokkr­um sinn­um reynt að eitra fyr­ir hon­um Spurður hvort hon­um hafi verið hótað sagðist hann hafa fengið tals­vert af aðvör­un­um síðan málið hófst fyr­ir rúm­um þrem­ur árum. „Það hef­ur verið reynt að nálg­ast mig með slæmt í huga en ég hef bara verið svo hepp­inn að vera með góða líf­verði í kring­um mig,“ sagði hann og nefndi að skrítið fólk hefði komið inn í líf hans sem hafði áhuga á tölv­unni hans og gögn­un­um.
